“O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly;
My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,
In a dry and weary land where there is no water.”

Psalm 63:1 (NASB)

King David wrote this Psalm when he was in the wilderness of Judah, in a “dry and weary land”. Yet David did not long for physical food, he did not thirst for the water of the world. David’s yearning was for the presence of God. He desired God with his entire being, body and soul. The people of God desire His presence. They seek Him earnestly, that is there is no ulterior motive, no feigned affection, no putting on appearances. We are to worship together today because it is our heart’s desire. And we know that when we seek Him with our hearts we will find Him (Jer. 29:13).

Questions for application…

What did David desire more than physical nourishment?

What is the proper motivation for coming together to worship?

>What is my desire for coming to worship with God’s people this morning?
