“Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.”
2 Cor. 5:9 (NASB)
The ambitions of the world and the ambition of the believer are polar opposites. The ambitions of the world are many : prominence, prosperity, power and pleasure. The ambition of those who abide in Christ is singular, we desire to please Him. This is our desire and our measure of success. Only a heart that has been transformed by the gospel has this longing. A lost world is not concerned with pleasing God, rather the carnal mind is at war with God (Rom. 8:7). The lost will only do the right thing when it is beneficial to themselves. As believers, our first and foremost desire should be to live lives that honor and glorify the One who gave His life for us.
Questions for application…
Why do the lost have no desire to please God?
How do our ambitions reflect the closeness of our walk with Christ?
