“For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.

Galatians 1:10 (NASB)

The abiding life is one of complete devotion to God. There is no room for ambiguity. We are called to be bond-servants of Christ. Christ is our master, that is what the word “Lord” means. We work for him because not only have we been purchased by His blood but because He is good to us, lavishing His love and providential care upon us. We can either choose to live our lives to please our Lord or to please men but we cannot serve both. In fact Christ tells us that “ no man can serve two masters.” (Matt. 6:24) Who will we serve? Are we devoted to God or trying to seek the favor of men?

Questions for application…

Why is it impossible to be devoted to two masters?

What are some reasons for devoting ourselves to pleasing God?
