“When Jesus came into Peter’s home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever. He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and waited on Him. When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill. This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: ‘He Himself took our infirmities and carried away our diseases.’”
Matthew 8:14-17 (NASB)
Whether it is recovery from a fever, spiritual release or even resurrection from death, there is nothing that is outside the scope of Christ’s ability or His compassion. All healing comes from God. In this passage we see three reasons for Christ’s healing ministry. He healed Peter’s mother-in-law so that she could freely serve Him. He cast out demons to demonstrate His authority and power. He healed the multitudes so that the scriptures would be fulfilled. Whether temporary or final, every healing is part of God’s perfect plan, and every healing is designed to cause us to worship the Healer.
