“My soul is crushed with longing After Your ordinances at all times.”
Psalm 119:20 (NASB)
Abiding in Christ will give us a greater desire for God’s word. The Psalmist expresses that desire by saying that his “soul is crushed with longing” after the ordinances or commandments of God. Have you ever felt that type of incredible desire and hunger for scripture? How do we get to that place where reading the word of God becomes a great delight instead of a great challenge? The key is to let your obedience lead your emotions. Commit to read the word of God daily even if (and especially if) you do not “feel” like doing so. Discipline breeds devotion. God will reward your faithfulness by increasing your desire for time with Him and what was once seemed a chore will become cherished.
Questions for application…
Why should we never let our emotions dictate our level of obedience?
How do we acquire a greater hunger for the word of God?
