“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside.
I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

Psalm 84:10 (NASB)

A day in the Lord’s courts, in His presence, in worship and adoration is better than a thousand outside. In His presence we find our greatest joy and in worship we find the purpose for which we were created. The Psalmist declares that he would rather stand at the threshold of God’s house (in other words he would rather hold the office of “door keeper”which is the lowest position in the temple) exposed to the elements and away from the comforts of the flesh then to dwell in the rich tents of the wicked. The Psalmist has found his sufficiency in Christ and has found his greatest satisfaction not in riches or in comfort but rather in the worship of God.

Questions for application…

Why does the Psalmist desire to be in God’s house?

What is the purpose for which God created us (and all things)?
