“They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Acts 16:31 (NASB)
A brief stint in a Philippian jail brought Paul and Silas to a divine appointment. After seeing the liberating power of God first-hand the Jailor called out to the missionaries: “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” Their answer was simple and yet profound: “They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Now, we must understand that Paul was not promising that the entire family would be saved upon the Jailor’s profession but rather that each person in the home could individually experience the promise of salvation upon their own personal faith in Christ. Luke goes on to tell us that the gospel was preached to the entire household (Acts 16:32), that every one believed on Christ (v.34) and that they all were baptized (v.33). The promise is extended still today and it is good for all people…believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved!
