“And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”

Acts 1:9-11(NASB)

We often think of the gospel in terms of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection and forget that His ascension is vital to our redemption as well. Luke details the account of Christ’s return to the Father in Acts 1. Why is it good news for us that Christ ascended to Heaven? Here are a few of the benefits we receive because of Christ’s ascension…

1. The sending of the Holy Spirit (John 16:7)

2. Our place in Heaven prepared (John 14:1-3)

3. Confidence that the work of redemption has been completed. (John 17:4)

4. The Promise of His return. (Acts 1:11)

5. The Intercessory ministry of Christ on our behalf. (Romans 8:34) (Hebrews 7:25)

6. The confirmation of His claims to have come form Heaven and to have been sent from the Father. (John 6:38)

Questions for application…
