You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

James 4:3 (NASB)

Going to God in prayer is not akin to going to Santa with our Christmas wish list. Prayer is not about us receiving things, in fact prayer is not about us at all. Prayer is about God receiving Glory and prayer is about conditioning us to have the mind and the desires of Christ. Despite what the prosperity preachers say, God is much more interested in our holiness than in our fleshly desires. The prayer that “accomplishes much” (James 5:16) is the one that says “not my will but Yours be done.”

Questions for application…

What should be the focus of our prayers ?

What kind of prayer is most effective ?
