Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; ”

Acts 3:19 (NASB)

In Peter’s second sermon in Acts, he encourages his listeners to repent and believe on Christ. Those who have done so have experienced the promise of verse 19 that our sins will be “wiped away”. Hebrews tells us that not only are our sins forgiven but that they have been forgotten by God. Peter also tells us that that “times of refreshing” will come to those who trust in Christ and dwell in His presence. The word for refreshing here is anapsyxis which means to “cool off as from the heat of the day” to “be refreshed or revived”. That is a wonderful description of time spent in the presence of Christ. We are renewed, revived and comforted by abiding in Him.

Questions for application…

What benefits does Peter promise to those who will repent and believe on Christ ?

Where is a Christian to find refreshment from the weariness of life ?
