Our God is a Jealous God. Normally we don’t think of jealousy as a good thing and in the hearts of sinful men it is not. In the hearts of men jealousy is an indication of pride, selfishness and immaturity. In God however Jealousy is not only good but right. God’s Jealousy is right because He alone deserves to be praised. All of our attention, our worship, our love and our obedience should go to Him. To give those things to anyone else is to commit idolatry. God’s Jealousy is good because there is simply nothing better than Himself. His Jealousy reflects a correct assessment of His Holiness and Worthiness. His Jealousy reflects a genuine love for us because God knows that we are most fulfilled and most satisfied when we are worshiping Him.
