“They went out and preached that men should repent.”
Mark 6:12 (NASB)
As Jesus sent out the twelve disciples on mission, He gave them specific instructions on where to go, what to wear and what to take with them. Jesus all gave the disciples specific authority. Most importantly, Christ gave them a specific message. Verse 12 tells us what that message was: “They went out and preached that men should repent.” Repentance was their message. Repentance was also John the Baptist’s message in Judea (Matthew 3:1-2), Peter’s message at Pentecost (Acts 2:38), Paul’s message at Mars Hill (Acts 17:30-31) and even Christ’s own message as He began His public ministry (Mark 1:15-16). Our commission is no different from that of these men, to preach repentance from sin and faith in the Savior. Will we be faithful to follow in their footsteps?

Why is it necessary to preach repentance from sin?
