“’Am I a God who is near,’ declares the Lord,
‘And not a God far off?
Can a man hide himself in hiding places
So I do not see him?’ declares the Lord.
‘Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?’ declares the Lord.”

Jeremiah 23:23-24 (NASB)

Our God is Omnipresent. Simply stated that means that God is in all places at all times. Not only is He fully present in all places but He is fully God in every place that He is present. Every sin that we commit is in the presence of a Holy and Just God. God may be ignored but He cannot be escaped. For those who have not trusted Him in repentance and faith that is a terrifying thought. For the believer however, God’s Omnipresence is a source of great joy. We know that no matter where we find ourselves or what circumstances surround us, God is near. Even in the valley of the shadow of death, we need not fear because Christ, our Good Shepherd is with us to lead, protect and comfort His children (Ps. 23:1-6).

Questions for application…

Why does the idea of God’s Omnipresence cause some people to be uncomfortable?

How does a proper understanding of God’s Omnipresence help us in dealing with difficult circumstances?
