“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 (NASB)
Our God is loving. His love is essential to His nature, His love is eternal and His love is unconditional in the sense that it is not given based on our merits but rather based on His will. The greatest demonstration of God’s love is the cross of Christ. Because God loves creation generally and His people specifically, He sent His only begotten (unique) Son that all of the believing ones will be saved. The promise of eternal life is conditional upon our repentance and faith in Christ but the love behind the promise is an unconditional love from an unchanging God!
