“It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
Heb. 10:31 (NASB)
Because of the nature of modern day preaching, one attribute of God that has nearly been forgotten is the attribute of His Wrath. We know that God is Good, and we know that He is Holy and because He is both of these, His Wrath against sin makes perfect sense. What exactly is God’s Wrath ? J.I. Packer simply and succinctly explains it this way: “Wrath is what happens when holiness meets sin! Wrath is what happens when justice meets rebellion! Wrath is what happens when righteousness meets unrighteousness! Wrath is what happens when perfect good meets pure evil!” God’s outpouring of Wrath against sin and sinners will be thorough, just, and terrible. It is also something that we can avoid by repenting of our sins and believing on Jesus Christ, Who on the cross, bore the Wrath of God in our place.
