“Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

Galatians 3:24-25 (NASB)

The purpose of the law (The commandments of God) is two-fold. In the Old Testament the law acted as a guard, separating and protecting God’s people from the worldly culture of the Gentiles. Today however, there is no longer any distinction between Jew and Gentile in Christ. Secondly the law acts as a schoolmaster or tutor to point out our sins and to lead us to Christ. The Law of God shows us that it is impossible to live righteously. This fact causes us to hunger and thirst for the righteousness that only comes through repentance and faith in Jesus.

Questions for application…

What purposes did the Old Testament Law serve ?

How can we use the Law in our evangelism efforts ?
