“Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. ”
Matthew 4:20 (NASB)
Christ’s call to Peter and Andrew was specific in that Christ chose these men (along with James and John) from among all of the fishermen on Galilee’s shore that day.. Christ promised them that if they would follow Him then they would become fishers of men. Verse 20 tells us how Peter and Andrew responded to Christ’s call.
1. Immediately : There was no hesitation. They did not waver in their commitment to Christ.
2. They left their nets: Peter and Andrew literally abandoned their careers and the tools of their trade to follow Christ. For a fisherman at this time, his nets were incredibly valuable. Yet, they abandoned everything they knew to follow Christ, choosing to seek first His kingdom. (Mt. 6:33) and trusting in His provision.
3. Followed Him: They humbled themselves to obey the commands of Christ, to learn at His feet and to be led by Him with no guarantee of their destination.
