“Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.” But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” ”
Luke 9:61-62 (NASB)
The heart of discipleship is a love for Christ above all things including ourselves. In Luke 9:57-62 we are told about 3 men who encounter Jesus. Each one is told by the Lord about the true cost of discipleship. The first man is told that following Jesus requires treasuring Christ above possessions (Lk.9:57-58). The Second man is told that following Christ means treasuring Christ above family responsibilities. (Lk. 9:59-60). The Third man is told that following Christ means treasuring Christ above our old lives (Lk. 9:61-62). Biblical discipleship requires that Jesus not only is our first priority but that He is our only priority. We cannot claim to be disciples if we do not trust Him and treasure Him above all things.

What are some things that prevent people from following Christ ?
Why is someone who longs for their old life not “fit for the Kingdom” ?
