““Cease striving and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.””

Psalm 46:10 (NASB)

Cease striving” or as some translations declare “Be still” and know that God is God. The Hebrew here is “raphah” which means to sink down, to relax or to become slack. In Psalm 46:10 God literally is telling us to “let go” of our efforts and trust in Him to carry us, to move us and to deliver us. He is calling us to remember that He is God and we are not. He is calling us to recognize not only His strength but His Sovereignty. He is assuring us that His plans will succeed, that the nations will glorify Him and that the Earth will exalt Him. We do not have to make this happen in our own strength, rather we only need to “be still” and allow his strength to be made perfect through our weakness.

Questions for application…

What is God calling us to remember here?

What promises does God make concerning His glory ?
