For what does the Scripture say? “ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.””

Romans 4:3 (NASB)

Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. The old testament saints were not saved by obedience to the law but rather by faith in Christ. Just as we look back through history to the cross, Abraham and others looked forward in faith to the coming Messiah. Because of our faith (and theirs) the perfect life and death of Jesus is credited to our account.

Questions for application…

Where does faith come from (Heb 12:2) ?

How does the idea of salvation by faith alone and not by works contrast with other religions?
