For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. ”

James 3:16 (NASB)

John the Baptist had the correct perspective when he said “He (Jesus) must increase, but I must decrease. (Jn 3:30)” Selfish ambition is the root of a multitude of sins. The “Me First” mentality is both toxic and tragic. It is toxic because our pursuit of meaning and fulfillment outside of Christ will always lead to disillusionment and disappointment. It is tragic because God created us for something far greater than self-exultation. We were created to glorify and enjoy our Creator. As Christians our desire should never be to lift ourselves up but rather to exalt Christ for only He is worthy.

Questions for application…

What does a live of selfish ambition lead to ?
