You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. ”

1 Peter 5:5 (NASB)

Pride comes before a fall and prides comes as an affront to the God of Grace. A proud, self-seeking heart is an unteachable heart. Unfortunately, pride is the default response of our sinful flesh. We tend to focus on ourselves, our desires and our standing and forget that life isn’t about us at all. Peter cautions us to imitate Christ by clothing ourselves in humility. We are to be humble toward other believers so that we may build unity in the body of Christ. We are to be humble toward God so that way may exalt Christ among the nations.

Questions for application…

What sins might a prideful heart lead to?

How does pride threaten the unity of the church ?
