“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. ”
John 6:35 (NASB)
Jesus declared Himself to be the “bread of life”. This was the first of seven “I AM” statements found in John’s gospel. He promised that those who come to Him will never hunger or thirst. Jesus is not referring to physical hunger here but rather the hunger for righteousness. There is nothing else that can satisfy our need to be right with God. Religion cannot satisfy us. Good works cannot satisfy us. Pursuing the appetites of the flesh cannot satisfy us. Power, prestige, wealth and influence all fail to satisfy our greatest desire. Jesus alone can rightfully make the claim to satisfy our need for righteousness because He alone paid the price for our sin on the cross. He alone made a way for us to be reconciled to the Father. Only through repentance and faith in Him can we find refreshment and satisfaction for our soul.(Acts 3:19)
