“For I will be merciful to their iniquities,
And I will remember their sins no more.”

Heb 8:12 (NASB)

Can you think of the “worst” thing you have ever done? Have you said hurtful things that you wish you could take back? Are there sins that you have committed long ago that still haunt your memory ? As believers in Christ we are partakers of a new covenant with God. In Hebrews chapter 8 God’s word reveals to us the reasons that this new covenant mediated by Christ is superior to the old Mosaic covenant. The new covenant fulfills the promises of God declared in Jeremiah (Jer. 31:31-34). One of God’s promises is that “I will remember their sins no more.”  If you are in Christ then you may remember your sins but God has forgotten them. Only God can cause Himself to forget things as if they never happened. This is impossible for us to do but we have His promise that every sin we have placed under the blood of Christ has been washed away from His memory forever.

Questions for application…

How does God see those who who have believed on Christ?

How should God’s mercy and “forgetfulness” towards us affect the way that we deal with others?
