“Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.'”
Leviticus 19:2 (NASB)
God’s preeminent attribute is His holiness. He is not like us, He is perfectly pure and undefiled. His commands are holy, His actions are holy and His thoughts are holy. God is incapable of sin or even being tempted to sin because He will do not do anything which is contrary to His nature. Several times in scripture God calls His chosen people to be holy because He is holy. The life of those who claim the name of Christ must be marked with God’s holiness. We should be “set apart” in the way that we speak and act and think as both a testimony to the world and as a reasonable act of worship to our holy God.
