“If I were hungry I would not tell you,
For the world is Mine, and all it contains.”

Psalm 50:12 (NASB)

Our God is self-sufficient. He alone is completely independent. God is dependent only upon Himself while everything else in creation (including mankind) is dependent upon Him. He does not need our resources, our time, our talents or our cooperation. He reminds us in this passage that the world and its fullness are His. While we were created to worship Him, He does not need the affirmation of our worship. We have never done and will never do any “favors” for God. He is not in debt to any man. He has blessed us by allowing us to know Him and worship Him, not because He needs our praise but rather because He deserves our praise.

Questions for application…

In what ways are we dependent upon God?

How does the knowledge that God already owns all things help us to surrender our time, talents and resources for His purposes?
