“There is a way which seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death.”

Proverbs 14:12 (NASB)

Be careful before following the “conventional wisdom” on an issue. What is socially acceptable now was unheard of only a century ago. Don’t trust the majority to make wise decisions. We must always bear in mind that following God’s wisdom will usually leave us in the public minority on an issue. There is a reason that Jesus said “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matt. 7:14) Don’t trust your heart either because God’s word tells us that “The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?” (Jer. 17:9) There is a great difference between doing what “seems” or “feels” right and doing what actually is right. What then can we relay on to find our way? There is only one infallible, inerrant, inspired and unchanging standard of right and wrong and that standard is the Word of God.

Questions for application…

Why is making a decision based on emotion a bad idea?

Why will Christians usually be in the minority on social issues?
