“Remember the former things long past,
For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is no one like Me,
Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things which have not been done,
Saying, ‘My purpose will be established,
And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’;”

Isaiah 46:9-10 (NASB)

Our God is Sovereign. Simply defined, God’s sovereignty means that God is truly God. Because He is Sovereign, He rules in all things and over all things. What He plans will always come to pass. In fact God tells us through Isaiah that He declares the “end from the beginning”. Every event of history unfolds according to His perfect will. He alone has the right and the power to do what pleases Him . He causes all things to happen in a way that allows Him to receive the maximum Glory and He also works all things for our eventual good (Rom. 8:28). His purpose will be established and it can never be changed or halted.

Questions for application…

How does our understanding of God’s Sovereignty help us in difficult circumstances?

How does the Doctrine of God’s Sovereignty contradict the concepts of luck and chance?
