This is another thing you do: you cover the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping and with groaning, because He no longer regards the offering or accepts it with favor from your hand. 1Yet you say, ‘For what reason?’ Because the Lord has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant. ”

Malachi 2:13-14 (NASB)

Our primary ministry is in the home. Malachi was speaking out on behalf of God against the priests and people of Israel whose worship had become unacceptable to Him. One of the issues that Malachi addresses is the lack of compassion and right treatment of the priest’s wives. The priests were going through the motions in the temple but they were neglecting their wives and in many cases sending them away by divorce. We should take heed of God’s words to Israel. In order for our worship to be pleasing to God, we must live with our families in a way that is pleasing to God. We must serve them as Christ served, we must lead them as Christ leads us and we must love them as Christ loves the church and gave His life for it. (Eph 5:25)

Questions for application…

Why was God displeases with the priests offerings ?

How are we to deal with our families ?
