“My son, do not reject the discipline of the Lord
Or loathe His reproof,
For whom the Lord loves He reproves,
Even as a father corrects> the son in whom he delights.”

Proverbs 3:11-12 (NASB)

One of the traits of good parents is that they discipline their children. God, being a loving Father disciplines and corrects His children as well. Discipline is a normal part of the Christian life. Hebrews 12:8 tells us that those whom God does not discipline are not His children at all. We must understand that the correction of God is designed not to punish us but to train us in holiness and to shape us into the image of His perfect Son. God will never punish His children (Rom. 8:1) because Christ has already born our punishment once and for all time. Do not reject God’s discipline because it will work in you and for you to the Glory of God.

Questions for application…

What are some ways that God disciplines His children?

How is discipline different from punishment?

Why will God never punish His children?
