“The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things;”

Acts 17:24-25(NASB)

We often forget that our God is Self-sufficient. In other words, He doesn’t need anything. When Christ tells us to worship, it isn’t because He needs us to sing His praises. He can make the rocks and hills and trees do that in our place. When He tells us to give generously and cheerfully it isn’t because He needs our money. He owns everything. It is already His. When God created us it wasn’t because He was in need of companionship. God doesn’t need our affirmation or our acceptance. Understanding His Self-sufficiency will help us not do see the commands of God as an obligation but rather as a privilege. He allows us to work for Him. It is a grace of God to witness and worship and give to Him. Not because it enriches Him but because it blesses us.

Questions for application…

What does Luke tell us that God gives to all people?

Why does God allow us to work for Him even though He doesn’t need our help?
