“As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.”

Psalm 125:2 (NASB)

The Old City of Jerusalem is surrounded by seven mountains: Moriah, Bethsaida, Scopus, Ghareb, Zion, Opel and the Mount of Olives. Because of it’s geography Jerusalem was nearly impenetrable to attack. In the same way our Omnipresent God surrounds His people, watching over us and protecting us. The promise is for all who are in Christ. We are surrounded by God’s perfect protection even when we don’t realize it. Nothing can touch us unless it has been permitted by God. The promise is for all times. The Psalmist declares “From this time and forever.” God will never leave us undefended. We can rest safely in His promise.

Questions for application…

How does it help us to rest knowing that God has us “surrounded”?

How long will God watch over His children?
