“Whom have I in heaven but You?
And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Psalm 73:25-26 (NASB)

It is impossible to worship that which we do not truly love. Yes, we can go through the motions externally but God desires worship that is genuine. He looks beyond the physical expression and into our hearts. Our worship must be grounded in a genuine desire for God. We must hold Him as our treasure. We can give Him pleasing praise when He is the strength our hearts and our portion. We can praise Him without hindrance and with singularity of purpose when we delight in His presence. Abiding in Christ leads to treasuring Christ which leads to worshiping Christ.

Questions for application…

What kind of worship does God desire and deserve?

What does it mean for God to be “our portion”?
