But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. ”

Titus 2:1 (NASB)

As Paul writes to Titus he reminds Titus that ,as a believer, his speech should be different from the pagan culture. We also need to be reminded that the words we say can either tear down or build up the body of Christ. We must proclaim sound doctrine but in order to do this we must first hold sound doctrine. Orthopraxy (Right living) only comes from Orthodoxy (Right doctrine). We must read, meditate on and hide the word of God in our hearts daily so that our speech will be edifying to the church and fitting for the Kingdom.

Questions for application…

What must come before right living ?

Why should believers be especially careful about their speech ?

What kinds of things should mark the speech of Christians ?
