Because of Adam’s fall the default spiritual condition of all men is death. We are sinners by our nature through Adam and we are sinners by our own choice. There is none who seeks after God and none who does good (Rom. 3:11-12). We are not merely sin-sick, not somewhat lost, not partially corrupted, rather we are completely dead spiritually apart from Christ. This is why we must be born again by the Holy Spirit of God (John 3:3) and given new life through faith in Christ.
