“Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
And His praise in the congregation of the godly ones.”

Psalm 149:1 (NASB)

“Sing to the Lord a new song.” The Psalms were written to be songs of praise to God. Often “new” psalms were written as victory songs to give thanksgiving to God for His protection and deliverance from the enemy. As believers in Christ we have a reason to sing to God a “new” song because we have also been delivered from death, Hell and the grave. In Christ we also have become more than conquerors (Rom 8:37). Notice also the exhortation to sing these songs in the congregation of the godly ones. Corporate worship is not optional for the believer. We gather to worship because God is Worthy and because He is faithful to have saved us from the power of the enemy.

Questions for application…

Why were the Psalms written?

Why should we assemble in corporate worship?
