“A rebuke goes deeper into one who has understanding than a hundred blows into a fool.”

Proverbs 17:10 (NASB)

How we react to accountability reveals much about our spiritual condition. If we are wise, then we will humbly and greatfully accept the loving rebuke of a brother. We will allow the words of correction to sink in, we will meditate on them and we will prayerfully apply them to our lives. A fool on the other hand will become defensive and proud when confronted with uncomfortable truth. The auther here uses the analogy of one who receives harsh physical punishment but does not learn from it. May we always be willing to submit ourselves to correction for our own sake, for the sake of the body of Christ and for the sake of the gospel.

Questions for application…

How should we respond to correction from the body of Christ?

What are some incorrect responses to correction?

Why is it important to submit ourselves to Godly correction?
