“And He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’ Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.”

2 Cor. 12:9 (NASB)

2 Corinthians 12:9 is really two promises in one. God promised Paul (and us) that His Grace was sufficient. God’s grace is sufficient, it is enough, it is all that we need to be secure in Christ. Our good deeds are not only unable to save us but they are unnecessary because of this sufficient grace. Secondly, God’s power is perfected in our weakness. God receives the full measure of glory when we admit that we are helpless to save ourselves. God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble (James 4:6) and He will work powerfully through those who will embrace their inadequacy and trust only in His strength.

Questions for application…

How does God’s promise of sufficient grace reassure us?

Why does God choose to use the humble and lowly?
