“By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.”
1 John 4:13 (NASB)
We know that we are in Christ because He has sealed us with the Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:13-14). The primary work of the Holy Spirit is glorifying Christ (John 16:14). Those who abide in Christ and are filled with the Holy Spirit will do what the Spirit does. We will glorify Christ with our thoughts, words and deeds. If I am abiding in Christ I will pursue righteousness and holiness. If I am abiding in Christ I will exalt Him by proclaiming His gospel to the lost. If I am abiding in Christ I will pursue unity in His body, the church. I will do these things not because my flesh desires them but because He has placed His Spirit within me.
